On the way there, Derek stopped to get another Springs staple:
The place itself is called Taco Express, but we all called it Greasy. And we did not mean that as a pejorative. Greasy was, is, and always will be, loving and reverent. Derek used to tell me how he would take all of his dates to McKenzies as a lithmus test for if they were someone who he could date. He said he wanted to see about their composure, how they ordered food, what kind of food snob they are, basically. Greasy was my date lithmus test. I wanted to se if people I was interested in could throw down a fuck ton of food, drink a Corona, and then run around in the dark with me. Most people could not hang. Some people I introduced Greasy to later. But one person who DID hang with Greasy was David. As people I've dated go, David was pretty rad. I hope wherever he is, he has a wife and children that adore him as much as he deserves. Cool guy. I hope he's doing well.
Derek got his Greasy, we drove to the airport to drop my dad and Caryn off, and saw this amazing bumper sticker:
Hysterical. Perfect. No notes.
And then we went to Meow Wolf for the second time. I had a moment. A deeply unpleasant moment. I had to sit down on the floor of MeowWolf for twenty minutes, I had to take a Zofran, I don't know what happened. Well, that's not true. I think I overdosed on caffeine.
And we end our trip with an u ssie, just like we started it.
This is my favorite picture that I took the entire time we were gone.
I took so many photos when we were in MeowWolf, but I honestly do not have the energy to post them all. So those two will just have to do. We had a great fucking time, though. I think we got about 75% through the storyline, but we had to go to meet Vin, Erica, and Riley on time. We were so disappointed to not finish, but we are SO EXCITED to take Rhyann to The Real Unreal in Grapevine for their 21st birthday in just a few months. Which...I cannot fucking believe. My first baby, the first love of my life when I could contextualize what that meant...is turning 21. That'll be a fun trip. Fast, and busy, but fun.
Anyway. We drove back to the Springs, packed up our shit, packed up the car, and headed to dinner. I don't know if you have people in your life that like...you just are with? No photos, no phones, no nothing, you are just with each other and life falls away? That's how being wih Vin and Erica and Riley is. Derek and I love them so much. We had a wonderful meal together, said our goodbyes, and then Derek and I go on the road. We drove five hours to somewhere in Kansas, trudged into our hotel, and slept like bricks.
